A Solution for Sleepy Travelers

Inspired by a personal experience of falling asleep at the airport after a long trip, Korolainen realized that many other travelers likely faced the same issue. He understood the need for a product that could effectively prevent passengers from missing their flights. Thus, Wake Up was born.

What sets Wake Up apart is its simple yet effective design. The tag features a clock face with movable pointers, allowing users to set and display their boarding time. The tag is worn around the neck, and if the user happens to fall asleep, the boarding time and the text "Please wake me up" are clearly visible to other travelers. This universal sign invites fellow passengers to lend a helping hand, reducing the risk of missed flights and ensuring a smoother travel experience.

Wake Up is not only practical but also environmentally friendly. The tag is made from recycled leather and recycled cardboard, aligning with the growing trend of sustainable design. It is available in a range of vibrant colors, ensuring it catches the attention of other travelers and increases the likelihood of someone noticing and assisting the wearer.

The dimensions of Wake Up are 150 mm x 150 mm x 2 mm, making it lightweight and easy to carry. Additionally, the tag can be customized with a pocket to hold a passport and boarding pass, providing travelers with a convenient and organized solution.

Designed by Ari Korolainen, Wake Up was developed from August to September 2017. The project aimed to address the issue of passengers missing their flights, which not only causes inconvenience but also disrupts the travel experience for others. Through extensive research and creative problem-solving, Korolainen created a product that effectively tackles this problem head-on.

Wake Up has received recognition for its innovative design. In 2018, it was awarded the Bronze A' Design Award in the Fashion and Travel Accessories category. This prestigious accolade is bestowed upon designs that exhibit outstanding creativity, resourcefulness, and technical skill. Wake Up's incorporation of best practices in art, science, design, and technology contributes to improving the quality of life for travelers worldwide.
